Works Inspector – Electrical

Salary

R269 499 (Level 6, per annum)

Requirements

• National Diploma (T/N/S streams) OR equivalent, OR
• N3 plus Trade Test (Electrical Trade Diploma) in the building environment, OR
• Registration as an Engineering Technician
• Valid driver’s licence (except persons with disabilities)
• Skills & knowledge: Project Management, technical analysis, computer literacy, technical report writing, production/process knowledge, problem solving & analysis, decision making, teamwork, customer focus & responsiveness, planning & organising, job knowledge, communication, interpersonal skills, flexibility, accuracy, co-operative approach

Duties

• Perform basic inspection services on minor new and existing structures on a project basis
• Verify that new and/or maintenance work complies with all relevant regulations and legislation
• Conduct inspections to ensure proper quality-control is maintained
• Estimate repair and cost requirements for minor new work and maintenance projects
• Maintain an electronic records system for ongoing and completed work
• Develop progress reports on outstanding and finalised work
• Analyse and compile documentation for minor new and existing structures:
?– Develop and interpret plans and sketches
?– Draft quotation documents and specifications
?– Participate in adjudication and provide quotation recommendations
• Liaise with stakeholders on technical aspects
• Oversee contractor performance:
?– Inspect contractor work for compliance with prescribed standards
?– Advise and guide contractors on relevant legislation and regulations
?– Compile payment documents, variation orders and extension-of-time requests
• Ensure effective contract administration and timely reporting of project issues
• Implement and report on Extended Public Works Programme activities
